„Recent Developments in Russian Foreign Policy and Domestic Politics“, 16 December 2015, 15:30-17:00
The speakers at this discussion event will be Professor Nikolai Petrov (Higher School of Economics; Moscow) and Dr Sergey Utkin (Centre for Situation Analysis, Russian Academy of Sciences; Moscow). Their talks will be chaired by Mr Karmo Tüür, researcher of the Estonian Foreign Policy Institute. The working language will be English.
There has been much discussion on the aims of Russian foreign policy after the war in Ukraine and the establishment of the Western-Russian sanction regimes. The war in Syria and the refugee crisis will presumably affect Russia’s relationship with the West as well – but how? Moreover, what is the connection of Russia’s recent foreign policy decisions with its domestic situation and developments? What are the advantages and what are the dangers resulting from recent developments to President Putin and/or Russia?
We have invited two leading Russian policy experts-scholars to discuss these questions. The discussion will take place in the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Islandi väljak 1). Pre-registration is required (firstname.lastname@example.org). Please provide the document number that you will present for entry.
